Java streaming:
Streaming using Java on a client machine with the Java Virtual Machine installed. This is included with some web-browsers and so additional media players need not be downloaded.

Java has the advantage of platform independence, although some internet browsers do not have it installed or enabled and by deafult prior to an applet running, you get a horrible grey box in it's place! There are lots of competing Java streaming players, although none which have the reach of the other major formats.
