Firewall:
Software or hardware which blocks traffic on certain ports
to increase security on a network. Often firewalls are configured
to block the standard streaming ports,
in which case some streams may not always be viewed. This can be overcome
by failover techniques and tunnelling
so that port 80 is used allowing streams to be played alongside normal
web traffic.
Flash Streaming:
Macromedia's streaming format, available as progressive
downloads or true streaming through Flash Communication Server.
Frames per second (fps):
The number of frames which are displayed each second during video
playback. When encoding
it is important to select a common ratio between the input and output
frame rates allowing for sychronisation.
e.g. Using a standard PAL input which has been recorded at 25fps,
the output should be 25fps, 12.5fps (ration 2:1) or 8.333fps (ratio
3:1).
